Taking time to reflect

Photography by Caitlin McCarrick

Fashion, just like all forms of creativity, allows us to express ourselves. On any given day, you can be anyone you want to be. Today’s outfit is a far cry from my the 60’s housewife that last graced you with her presence, wearing the top half to this set I got at the Long Beach Antique Market. That outfit, photography and post perfectly embodied how I felt that day: sassy, confident, sexy and empowered.

As such, today’s post tells the story of how I feel: reflective, pensive, and as The Head and the Heart would say, lost in my mind. Continue reading

Playing Dress Up: Real Housewife of OC, 1960’s edition

Photography by Caitlin McCarrick

If I had a time machine, I’d go back to the 1960’s. And the 70’s. Maybe the 50’s too, at least for a little. And let’s be honest, we all know why I’m going: I want to check out the fashions. Thankfully, my closet provides me the next best thing. Continue reading

Looking for Treasure: Long Beach Antique Market

Long Beach: the largest port on the West Coast, home to the Queen Mary and the first ever Miss Universe pageant, and former home to musical legends Sublime, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G. It’s culturally and demographically diverse , with a whole lot of personality and character, making it the perfect spot for one of the southland’s best flea markets, the Long Beach Antique Market. Vintage Vixen: Florence Welch

Florence in Shareen Vintage

Florence Welch: the only “aunt Flo” everyone wants in town. If you are wondering why, you have clearly not heard the lady belt out a tune. What’s more? She’s one stylish minx that takes major risks and doesn’t really give a rip what anyone else thinks. Combine all this with her porcelain skin and shock of red hair, and it’s easy to see why she’s become fashion’s latest darling. Though she is often wearing the latest couture, Flo loooooves her some vintage. Continue reading

Garage Sale Chic: Decor & Accessories Edition

Garage sales are weird. They give you a glimpse of the seller’s lives and truly, you can deduce a lot of their history from the unloading of past treasures. Since I am an admittedly nosy lady that cites people watching as one of her favorite past times,  I kind of like that garage sales provide a smattering of personal information you can only get by seeing the inside of someone’s home. Garage Sale Chic

Photography by Sal Taylor Kydd

Early morning phone calls always freak me out. Especially when it’s a Saturday morning and from someone you haven’t spoken to in a long time. I was happy to see Jaime’s name on my phone a few Saturdays ago, but my heart also skipped a beat. I let it go to voicemail, but listened immediately, and thank God I did.  It said: Shayna, it’s Jaime. I don’t know what you’re doing, but you need to get to Balboa Island immediately. The whole island is having a garage sale.  Continue reading
