I can’t believe I’ve been to Coachella four years in a row. It’s crazy how time flies, and it’s been very interesting to see the way the festival has changed even in just a few short years. What was once a festival that flew under the radar has become a media focus and totally commercialized; Modern Family referenced it a few weeks ago, Good Morning America chatted about it on air, and brands are scrambling to be in your face left and right, trying to get a piece of the popular pie. Continue reading
Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, the air is warm and the sun lingers longer in the sky. All of nature’s renewal can only mean one thing: the countdown to Coachella has officially begun! Though SXSW is the kick-off to festival season, Coachella is truly the place to see and be seen, fashionably speaking. Continue reading
At the onset of each new year, we set out with fresh, positive vigor to be better people, have richer lives, look more fly and outdo whatever success we met the year prior. I, for one, puffed up my chest at the onset of 2013, and vowed to have the best year ever.
Sometimes the universe has different plans, and on March 1, I came in to work (in a very cute, second handed outfit, I might add) and was told I was being laid off, effective immediately. Jerks.
The shock has now worn off and I’m starting to kind of like this idea of unemployment. Its time to figure out what I really want to do, who I really want to be and spend time doing things that really make me happy. And, while I’m at it, those things I set out to do at the beginning of 2013. Continue reading
Ahhh, the working life. Getting back in the swing of things at work has been amazing in so many ways, but I also can’t seem to get ahold of my life in other ways. Like my blogging schedule, keeping in touch with friends and family, and working out, to name a few. But through it all, one thing has remained a constant: my dedication to dressing/shopping/living second hand. Continue reading
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to San Francisco, the only place on this side of the equator in which teeth chattering can be heard ’round town in August. Want to get even colder? Head to Golden Gate Park, home to the spectacular Outside Lands Music & Art Festival. From August 10-12, hoards of 20-somethings headed into the park for a variety of rad jams, so naturally, I had to join them. Continue reading
When you hear the phrase classic American beauty, there’s one woman that almost always comes to mind: Marilyn Monroe. The bright blonde bob, sultry stare, full red pout and iconic mole have all been immortalized as the epitome of all-American glamour. The Samantha of times past, Marilyn has remained the embodiment of what men want to be with and what women want to be. Continue reading
Who says that girly girls have to be high maintenance? In my opinion, the staple article of a female’s wardrobe is not only the most feminine piece of clothing, but also the laziest. The dress is hands down the easiest thing to wear, and perhaps that’s why I’ve ended up with more new dresses in the past few weeks than I have anything else.
Though I was supposed to be honing my shopping focus onto Coachella, the past few weeks of secondhand shopping have brought the addition of some fun new dresses (case in point, my Second Hand Saturday on Long Beach’s Retro Row). Maybe it’s the beautiful SoCal weather as of late, but all I want to wear is dresses, dresses all day long.
On a recent trip to Buffalo Exchange in Downtown Fullerton, I was on a specific Coachella shopping mission, but walked away with two dresses and a poncho/kaftan that is essentially a dress. This maxi dress was a whopping $12- how could I say no? It’s the perfect throw on for summer, and how cute is it? Add a jean jacket, some accessories and cute sandals, and bing bang bong- cute city, population 1.
I’m about to head out to Long Beach’s Retro Row for a day of vintage shopping, but I can’t stop thinking about this dress i found the other day on Etsy. Vintage 1980’s LBD with a perfect peplum. Peplums are so hot right now, making this dress the perfect blend of current and classic. At $55, it’s a little pricey, but can you really put a price on the perfect LBD? I think I’ll sleep on it one more night, but in my mind, this dress is already mine. What do you think?
As promised in my last post on all my finds at the Dee-Lux dollar sale, I’m going to show you the looks I’ve made out of the pieces- heinous or not. There are a few I’d already written off as failures, such as the red romper and “Little House on the Prairie” top. Another one was “The Phoebe,” a dress so tragically nineties I was concerned it could not be resurrected. But alas, I proved myself wrong and managed to walk out of the house (and to work, no less) not only wearing “The Phoebe,” but actually liking it. What do you think?
